A Blues’ win opens 2017 Mini Chowder Cup.

FOXBORO – The third and final of New England Pro-Am Hockey’s Chowder Cup tournaments for the 2017 season is under way. The Mini Chowder Cup started early on Friday morning at the Foxboro Sports Center. The Boston Jr. Blues ’03 taking home the win in that contest by a 5-1 margin over Coastal Clippers Black.

If the opening seconds of the game were any indication, it was to be the Clippers day. With a goal credited just five seconds after the game’s opening face off, Thomas Huard had given them a very early 1-0 lead, the assist going to Wyatt Nastar.

It was an early shock, but it was also where Coastal’s recorded offense ended. The Blues took over from there, having the game tied just a few minutes later on a Tyler Ramm goal at 3:13. They took a 2-1 lead at 15:01 on a goal from Nick McSorley, a lead that lasted through the duration of the opening half.

Boston went on to more than double their offense in the second, striking three times, starting with a power play goal by Ian Olenik in the frame’s opening minute.

Goals from Drew Haxton and Davis Kinne rounded out the 5-1 final, while Blues netminder Mike Salvatore was credited with the win.
