Attack outlasts Militia

FOXBORO – It was only the midpoint of the first day of the 2016 Mini Chowder Cup, but Mass Attack ’03 already had two wins to their credit on Friday afternoon. After an early morning victory over Townshend Hockey Selects, they defeated the East Coast Militia 4-3 at Foxboro Sports Center.

Attack forward Drew Blackwell started the game’s scoring at the 6:47 mark. It was the first goal in what became an eventful first half, both teams trading two-goal blows.

Chris O’Grady made it 2-0 before the Militia rallied with a pair of quick strikes to get themselves back to even. Brian Jenkins at 15:25 and Aidan Tripp at 16:13 made it 2-2, but the Attack still had one more two-goal swing left in them. Another from Blackwell – his second of the contest and fourth of the day – and Brady Bomel helped reassume their two-goal lead.

The high scoring first half came to an end with the Attack leading 4-2. Cooper Mullen got the Militia back to within one with his score at 12:29 of the second, but – after six combined goals in the first – the defenses kicked in for the final frame.

The scoring went quiet, Mullen’s score ending up as the only one scored in the second half. Netminder Gavin Kiley and the Attack defense stymieing their foe the remaining 7:31 to hold on for the 4-3 victory.
