Coaches Choice nips Yorktown, 2-1.

FOXBORO – With the preliminary round of the 2019 Mini Chowder Cup coming to a close, Coaches Choice Mid Atlantic made the most of their opportunity. In their final game of pool play, they defeated the Yorktown Sports Chiefs 2-1 to tie their foe atop the 2005 Division Bracket 3 standings with a record of 3-0-1.

The game’s scoresheet was never much out of balance as there was a trade of shots in the first half. Edward Asante scored for Coaches Choice followed by Robbie Thompson for Yorktown as the opening half ended in a 1-1 tie.

With goaltenders Dylan Krick (Yorktown) and Jason Cai (Coaches Choice) doing solid work in their respective nets, goals were at a premium. Just once in the second did either netminder blink. The game-winner coming near the midpoint of the latter frame as Iain Mirilovich chose the opportune moment to score his first goal of the tournament. The tiebreaker coming at the 11-minute mark of the second half.
