CANTON – Hard to think a team that won each of its previous games at the 2019 Mini Chowder Cup could have a “save the best for last” performance, but Elite Hockey Academy may have figured out how to do so. In their final game of the preliminary round, they posted a 10-0 drubbing on the North American Bobcats on Saturday evening at the Canton Ice House.
The offensive fireworks started early in the first half and nary let up throughout as Elite Hockey struck seven times in the opening 20 minutes. Christopher Barlas doubled his goal total in the tournament with a hattrick in the first period. Colin Watson had a pair of his own, while Andrew Piccirillo and Lucas Veilleux each had one to establish the seven-goal cushion.
While it was all but over, there were still another 20 minutes to play and Elite Hockey continued to further solidify their place in the tournament’s playoff round. Veilleux capped off the game’s scoring, but not before Luka Benoit and Seamus Lockhart each contributed a goal to round out the 10-0 final.
On the backend, Owen Willgos posted his second shutout of the tournament in the victory.
