CANTON – GMG Hockey Club closed out their preliminary round record at the 2022 Mini Chowder Cup at 3-1-0 with a win on Saturday. They defeated Polar Sports Elite 7-3 in ’08 division play.
It was a five-goal assault in the first, the GMG offense striking to put a stamp on the game. Polar got two of their own in the opening frame, with goals coming from Daniel Zhu and Alan Wang, but GMG had goals from Jackson Smail (who struck twice), Hunter Chadbourne, Charlie Leonard and Des Collins to make it a comfortable 5-2 lead at the break.
The scoring slowed down in the second, GMG taking the period by a 2-1 score for the 7-3 final. Noah Keeler and Russell Kelleran each netted one for the victors, while Aaron Yu put away the remaining tally for Polar Sports.
