WALPOLE – It is one day down, two to play as the Boston Jr. Whalers Black capped off the opening day of the 2014 New England Pro-Am Mini Chowder Cup by scoring a 15-0, ’00 Division win over North Eastern Selects on Friday evening at Rodman Arena.
The final game of the day was over nearly before it began as the Whalers had all the offense they needed less than 30 seconds into the contest. TJ Walsh started the offensive display with the first of what would be five goals on the day at 0:22 of the first half.
Though they had all they needed, the offense kept rolling as Boston’s 1-0 lead grew to 6-0 before the opening frame was even half over and 9-0 before intermission. There was not much slowing down either when the teams returned from the break, as the Whalers posted six more goals in the game’s final 20:00.
Boston’s 15 goals were the most scored by any team in either division in the tournament’s first day of play, Walsh leading the production on the score sheet with an astounding eight points; credited with five goals and three assists. Riley Damiani backed up Walsh in the goal scoring parade with a hat trick of his own, while Nick Castro had a hat trick’s worth of assists and Teth Burles had a hat trick’s worth of points with two goals and an assist.
Akil Thomas (2G), Cullen Young (1G, 1A), Cole Edwards (1G, 1A), Brandon Tabakin (2A), Ryan Bangs (2A) and Tyler Weiss (2A) all also had multiple point showings in the win. Elliot Tang backstopped the shutout for Boston.
