Mercer Chiefs open with big win

WALPOLE – The Mercer Chiefs came out swinging in their 2015 Mini Chowder Cup debut, posting a 6-1, ’01 division win over the Little Rhody Hockey Club on Friday afternoon at Rodman Arena.

It was an offensively charged first half for the Chiefs, their offense going to work and lighting the lamp six times over the course of the 20-minutes. The party started with the first of a game-high two goals from Aidan McDowell at 1:08. The Chiefs went on to reel off five more, including run of three goals in the span of 1:03, as Liam Ovington, Kyle Mandleur, Tyler Paquette and Sam Fishtyn all joined McDowell in the scorers column in staking themselves a 6-0 lead.

With the damage done, the Mercer offense took a break in the second half and let the defense take over to close out the win. They could not escape, however, with the clean sheet in tact, Little Rhody breaking up the shutout on an Alex Pratt goal at 10:31 of the second.

Pratt’s score bringing the game to its 6-1 final.
