Penguins close their day with a decisive win.

FOXBORO – After opening their stay at New England Pro-Am Hockey’s 2017 Mini Chowder Cup with an overpowering, 8-0 victory Friday morning against the East Coast Militia, the Eastern Ontario Penguins kept up their offensive assault. In the afternoon, they topped Spartans AAA 7-3 in ’04 division play at Foxboro Sports Center.

The Spartans started strong, taking the game’s first lead on an unassisted power play goal by Anthony Lombardo at 2:59. Eastern Ontario responded with an unassisted power play goal of their own to tie it just minutes later. This one a Corbin Roach score at 6:40, which also tipped off a run of five unanswered goals by the Penguins over the duration of the first half and into the second.

Another Spartans power play goal – this one by Elijah Thompson at 8:48 of the second half – slowed the Penguins momentum and cut their lead to 5-2, but once again Eastern Ontario responded, again with a power play goal by Roach, all but finalizing the victory.

The two sides traded scores over the game’s final seven minutes to close out the 7-3 score.

Roach had added an even strength goal to his pair of power play scores for a hat trick, while teammate Dalyn Wakely totaled four points (1G, 3A) to lead the game in scoring.

Thompson finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Spartans offense.
