Townshend ’04 draws even with Killa Beez in opener.

FOXBORO – With the 2017 Mini Chowder Cup getting under way on Friday morning, Townshend Hockey ’04 and the Killa Beez remain on an even playing field. The two sided played to a 3-3 draw in their tournament opener at the Foxboro Sports Center.

Beez pivot Anthony Mercurio opened the game’s scoring, giving his side its first advantage just 3:18 in on a goal assisted by Sean Geary. Townshend drew even on an unassisted score by Elijah Nieves at 8:50, but the Beez had their advantage back by intermission. Loran Corcoran scoring just 20-seconds before the break to make it 2-1 at the half.

The second verse played similar to the first, just in reverse.

This time it was Townshend’s turn for the early goal, Garrett Kata making it 2-2 just 1:09 into the frame. Corcoran added his second at 4:49 to put the Killa Beez on top for the third time in the contest, but for the third time it was a lead that did not last.

Tanner Hunt converted for the game’s final goal, a goal assisted on by Bronson Hunt at 9:05, tying it for Townshend 3-3. Where the score remained as its final.

Corcoran (2G) and Tanner Hunt (1G, 1A) went down as the game’s leading scorers. Gage Tarbox-Belanger of Townshend and Drew Carr of the Beez went down as the goaltenders of record for their respective teams.
