Roc City ‘01’s rally for draw with Blues

WALPOLE – It is two games in the book at the 2015 Mini Chowder Cup for both the Boston Jr. Blues and Roc City Elite ’01, both teams ending the tournament’s opening day of play with identical 1-0-1 records after playing to a 4-4 tie on Friday night at Rodman Arena.

Roc City drew first blood on a George Stephan goal at 4:56 of the first, but the Blues then put themselves in good position of their second win of the day as they ran off four-straight to close the first half with a 4-1 advantage. Mitchell McKay, Mason Von Ness, Daniel Addonizzio and Tommy Harty all scoring for Boston.

The Blues were sitting pretty, but Roc City rallied quickly out of the break, goals coming at 3:44 and 5:07 of the second to cut their deficit to one at 4-3. There was still nearly half a period to play once Parker Shroeder netted the equalizer for Roc City at 11:39 of the second half, but neither side was able to break away again. The score remained 4-4 through the final buzzer.

Roc City pivot Sam VanderZelm finished as the game’s only multipoint scorer, credited with a game-high two assists.
