CANTON – Day 1 of New England Pro-Am’s 2023 Mini Chowder Cup has come to a close. The Vermont Flames closed out the opening day’s slate with a 9-0 blanking of the Eels in 2009 Division play Friday night at the Canton Ice House.
Most of the game’s offense came in the second half, as the first came to a close with the Flames leading just 2-0.
Devin Dube got the assault started early in the second and the Flames offense keep it going through out. Six different goal scorers put away seven goals for Vermont in the onslaught, while Zachary Merchand remained perfect in net to keep the Eels off the board and complete the 9-0 victory. It was the netminder’s second win of the day.
Esher Brier led all scorers in the contest with two goals and an assist.
