Clovers run Rebels, 5-1.

ROCKLAND – The Chicago Clovers got off to a hot start at the 2023 Mini Chowder Cup, ripping off two wins on the opening day of play, including a 5-1 victory over the RI Rebels in 2009 division play on Friday afternoon at Lovell Arena.

It has been a hot start to the tournament, but it was a slow start to this game, the two side playing to a 1-1 draw through the first half.

Chicago took control when the teams returned to the ice for the game’s second half. They put away four scores in the frame, while netminder Owen Stover kept everything thrown his way out of the Clovers net to solidify the 5-1 win.

The attack was a balanced one for the Clovers, all five of their goals coming from a different skater; Max Copeland, Matthew Sack, Austin Beauvais, Damian Jurczak and Jayden De Leon. Sack (1G, 1A) was the game’s only multipoint scorer, assisting on De Leon’s goal.

Chase Labelle was credited with the lone Rebels score.
