ROCKLAND – The Polar Selects opened their 2009 preliminary round schedule at the 2023 Mini Chowder Cup with a win on Friday afternoon. They doubled up the CT Caribou 4-2 at Lovell Arena.
Polar jumped out to the lead in the first and did not look back in their quest to victory, holding a 3-1 lead at the intermission. Will Reidy and Louis Zheng each had a score, while Bruce Zhong had a shorthanded score for Polar. Lucas Gillooly was credited with the Caribou goal in the first, also shorthanded.
It was a 1-1 split in the second, but Polar had done enough in the first to hold on for the 4-2 victory. Zhong added two assists to his goal to finish with a game-high three points, while goaltender Joffrey Chan was credited with the win.
